He is the former Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator of the <a title=\"NTIA\" href=\"https:\/\/icannwiki.org\/NTIA\">National Telecommunications and Information Administration<\/a> (NTIA) under the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"DOC\" href=\"https:\/\/icannwiki.org\/DOC\">U.S. Department of Commerce<\/a> (DOC). He was sworn into office on June 25, 2009. As NTIA administrator, he is responsible in making sure that the agency&#8217;s initiatives will result to the expansion of broadband internet access and the internet will continue as an effective vehicle for economic growth and innovation. <sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>He is one of the main contact points between <a title=\"ICANN\" href=\"https:\/\/icannwiki.org\/ICANN\">ICANN<\/a> and the U.S. Government. While sometimes critical of ICANN, he is fundamentally supportive of it and its multi-stakeholder model.
