I have a bachelor degree in computer science and a post graduate diploma in international maritime law. I am currently studying for a master\u2019s degree in Artificial Intelligence and my research is based on how to bridge the maritime industry and AI together.<\/p>\n

Fellow Report<\/h4>\n

Participating in the European Summer School on Internet Governance (EuroSSIG) 2026 in Meissen, Germany, was a very valuable experience for me. I joined the programme with interests spanning AI, cybersecurity, maritime affairs and technology policy, and I left with a much deeper understanding of how these areas connect within the wider Internet governance ecosystem. <\/p>\n

One of my biggest takeaways was gaining a clearer understanding of the multistakeholder approach to Internet governance. Although I was already familiar with the concept, EuroSSIG helped me appreciate the realities behind it: governments, businesses, civil society, the technical community and academia may all participate, but they often bring very different interests and perspectives. The discussions showed me that Internet governance is rarely about finding one perfect answer, but rather about balancing competing interests while protecting an open, secure and accessible Internet. <\/p>\n

Another personal highlight was the opportunity to present on \u201cArtificial Intelligence: A Business Perspective.\u201d It allowed me to contribute my own experience to the programme and reflect on the growing importance of responsible AI. I also shared some of the approaches being encouraged at the University of Malta towards transparent and responsible use of AI in academic work. The exchange of views with fellows from different professional and cultural backgrounds made the discussion especially meaningful. <\/p>\n

The negotiation workshop was another memorable part of the week. It reminded me that successful negotiation is not simply about convincing others, but about listening, understanding interests and finding common ground. I believe these skills will be valuable not only in Internet governance but throughout my professional career. <\/p>\n

Beyond the formal sessions, some of the most meaningful moments came from conversations with fellow participants and faculty during breaks, meals and social activities. Meeting people from different countries and disciplines broadened my perspective and created connections that I hope to maintain beyond the Summer School. <\/p>\n

EuroSSIG has strengthened my interest in Internet governance and encouraged me to become more involved in communities such as the Internet Governance Forum and ICANN, while continuing to contribute perspectives from AI, cybersecurity and the maritime sector.<\/p>\n

I am grateful to the organisers, faculty, sponsors and fellow participants for making this experience possible. EuroSSIG gave me new knowledge, new connections and, most importantly, greater confidence that I can meaningfully contribute to conversations about the future of the Internet. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
