By car:<\/strong>
\nComing from Autobahn A4 take the exit \u201cDresden-Altstadt\/Mei\u00dfen\/GVZ\u201d and enter onto the interstate road (Bundesstra\u00dfe B6) direction \u201cMeissen\u201d. Follow the B6 until you reach the city of Meissen. (On your right side you will see the river \u201cElbe\u201d all the way long). In the city of Mei\u00dfen, the road B6 is called \u201eSiebeneichener Strasse\u201d, \u201cUferstrasse\u201d, \u201cHochuferstrasse\u201d. Follow the road B6 (\u201cHochuferstrasse\u201d) and turn left onto \u201cMeisastrasse\u201d \/ \u201cF\u00fcrstenstrasse der Wettiner\u201d (B101). After 300 meters turn left again onto \u201cAm Lommatzscher Tor\u201d. At the end of this street turn left in \u201cNossener Strasse\u201d and after 20 meters turn right on \u201cFreiheit\u201d. St. Afra Monastery is in no. 16. After check-in in you can park your car free of charge in the court yard.<\/p>\n

By plane:<\/strong>
\nYou can consider the following airports: Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, Prague (Czech Republic) from there you have to continue by train to Dresden and then to Mei\u00dfen. From the airports Frankfurt am Main and Munich you can either catch a train or another airplane which brings you to Dresden.<\/p>\n

If you arrive at Dresden-Airport go to the S-Bahn, signposted with the \"clip_image002\"-symbol and take the train S2 direction \u201cDresden Hauptbahnhof\u201d. The train leaves every 60 minutes ( 04:48, 05:48, 06:48 \u2026 etc. last train at 23:48). After 12 minutes riding time you have to change the train at the station \u201eDresden Neustadt\u201c. Take train S1 to \u201eMei\u00dfen Triebischtal\u201c, and leave the train at “Mei\u00dfen Bahnhof” or \u201cMei\u00dfen Altstadt”. Riding time is about 50 minutes. Continue the journey as described below under section “Local transportation in Mei\u00dfen”. <\/em>Tickets cost 9,20 EUR \/ valid for 2 hours and you can get them the vending machine. By train:<\/strong>
\nIf you arrive at Dresden Main Station (Hauptbahnhof, HBF) go to the S-Bahn \"clip_image002\" and take S1 via \u201cMei\u00dfen Triebischtal\u201d. Trains are leaving every 30 minutes minutes (04:30, 05:00, 05:30 \u2026 etc. last train at 01:00). You don\u2019t have to change the train. Your final destination is “Mei\u00dfen Bahnhof” or \u201cMei\u00dfen Altstadt”. Riding time is 37 minutes. Continue the journey as described below under section “Local transportation in Mei\u00dfen”. <\/em>Tickets cost 9,20 EUR \/ valid for 2 hours and you can get them the vending machine. Taxi:<\/strong>
\nAt Dresden airport and at Dresden train station you will also find taxis. Taxi fare is about 70,00-80,00 EUR for 30-45 min riding time. Please check with the taxi driver in advance if credit card payment is accepted or not. If you want to use an App to order a taxi: Freenow works in this region. Uber is not available in this region. <\/p>\n

Local transportation in Mei\u00dfen (also spelled Meissen):
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Taxis are rare in Mei\u00dfen and it should be ordered in advance. <\/p>\n

OPTION 1: Get off at “Mei\u00dfen Bahnhof”
\nGet at “Busbahnhof, Mei\u00dfen” onto bus number B, direction “Korbitz Wendeplatz”  (6 min ride) or bus number A “Schletta Wendeplatz”  (23 min ride). Get off at “Lommatzscher Tor”.  From there you still have to walk up the hill for 350 m, but the road is not rocky. The last bus departs at 19:43. Tickets cost 3,20 EUR but above mentioned S-Bahn ticket is also valid within 2 hours.<\/p>\n

OPTION 2: Get off at “Mei\u00dfen Altstadt”
\nA walk from train station “Mei\u00dfen Altstadt” to the Monastery is only 900 m but you have to pass rocky roads and heavy gradients. It will take you around 15-20 min. It is not recommended with the luggage (but fellows regularly take that challenge).<\/p>\n

If there are free seats you could take bus number E, which is the official sightseeing bus<\/a>.  This bus brings you up the hill almost to the gate of St. Afra. Get onto the modern mini bus at the station \u201cS-Bf Altstadt\u201d and get off at \u201cBurgstuben\u201d (5 stops).  Duration of the ride is 7 min. Then walk back 50 m, turn right and walk another 60 m until you reach the big gate of St. Afra Monastery on your left. The address is \u201cFreiheit 16\u201d. The bus is departing every 60 min (10:05, 11:05, … etc. last bus at 17:05). Tickets cost 3,20 EUR but above mentioned S-Bahn ticket is also valid within 2 hours.<\/p>\n
