Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands

My background is in cybersecurity and economics. I am doing a PhD on the evolution of, and shifts within, the cybercriminal ecosystem, examining cybercrime as a professionalized, transnational activity, studying offender capabilities, trust models, and market structures across various illicit online environments. I use a multidisciplinary methodology combining artificial intelligence, quantitative monitoring tools, and qualitative analysis to identify how threats emerge, scale, and spread across Internet infrastructures. My work aims to improve threat intelligence and inform risk models for internet resilience.
Fellow Report
I am thankful to the EuroSSIG committee for granting me this fellowship; my participation would have been impossible without their support. It was an amazing experience. The summer school offered not only a unique learning opportunity but also opened the doors to a network that I truly feel like I will be interacting with for the rest of my career. I believe I met a lot of the internet governance leaders of the future during my week in Meissen. From the faculty to the fellows, all brilliant people, eager to learn and discuss in a safe space; that is still intellectually challenging. I have a master’s degree in cybersecurity. I have the background necessary to understand the technical concepts of the summer school. What I was missing in my education was listening to experiences on how they were used in practice. This was a huge contribution to my professional development. Further, as I am currently working towards a PhD in Cybercrime, the insights that the faculty gave on Wednesday were particularly helpful to me. I have identified pointers for future work, locating research gaps throughout the presentations. The fellows also gave me ideas, by articulating the challenges each of them is facing from a cybersecurity standpoint, in their respective countries. I was fortunate to be able to present some of my own research during a session. The feedback that I got was very valuable for me to think of privacy issues my type of research could have. Getting comments from heterogenous crowds is super valuable. Often times when you get comments from people with the same background, there are a lot of issues you miss. I do not think I have ever been in a fellowship that is so international. Despite our cultural differences, we all communicated with respect and reached a mutual understanding on a variety of topics. The practicum was useful for us to collaborate hands on towards a common goal. It was refreshing to hear so many different perspectives in one room, as we discussed what the future of the Internet Governance Forum should be.
