Fellow Report:
The 19th EuroSSIG was truly a great experience for me, both professionally and personally. As a digital media and policy researcher interested in AI governance, I found the content and program very insightful. The presentations enriched my knowledge and understanding of internet governance, provided technical background on how the Internet works, and offered insights into policymaking processes in this field. I appreciate the opportunity to gain a more comprehensive understanding of global law and policymaking around digital technology. I would like to highlight that the presentations covered a diverse range of topics related to digital technologies – from the Internet and domain names to AI, neurotechnology, and quantum computing. I also want to mention the rich discussions, which deepened my understanding of tech governance from different perspectives such as human rights and multistakeholder models.
The practicum and group work were also very helpful. I greatly enjoyed working with my groupmates with diverse backgrounds and discussing ideas with other groups in a multistakeholder format. We had the opportunity to contribute to the WSIS+20 Stakeholder Consultations, which I found to be a highly rewarding experience. It gave us practical insight into key global initiatives in Internet governance and allowed us to apply the multistakeholder approach in a real-world context.
I truly appreciate the chance to interact with academics and professionals from diverse fields and backgrounds. This exchange gave me a broader view of emerging topics in internet governance and find links of different digital governance frameworks and mechanisms. It also inspired many useful ideas for my current research projects and helped me see the value I can bring to the field of internet and AI governance as a researcher.
The summer school offers an important opportunity to build an international network of professionals and academics from various disciplines, which will be valuable for our future careers and initiatives. I am looking forward to connecting with faculty members and fellows in the future, as well as applying the knowledge I gained in the development of responsible and ethical AI governance practices.
Finally, I genuinely enjoyed my time in Meissen. The cultural part of the summer school was also exciting and allowed us to gain insight and experiences into the local history and culture.
